The factory will start production in 2021, according to Samuel Halala, director of the Ethiopian Chemical and Construction Inputs Industry Development Institute, speaking to the New Business Ethiopia website. The plant is located near the city of Dejen.

Halala added that the 14 currently active cement factories in Ethiopia produce a total of 11.5 million tonnes of cement per year.

The greenfield cement plant is being developed by public-private Ethiopian firm Abay Industrial Development Share Company.

China-based Hengyuan Group is carrying out civil work on the factory and Danish company FLSmidth is supplying and installing the machinery.
