Sand boost for Bathgate
UK-based silica sand producer Bathgate has increased productivity at its Arclid, Cheshire quarry with delivery of a 32tonne wheeled loader as its new prime mover. The company bought the new Volvo L220F wheeled loader to replace an L220E machine, acquired in 2003, and will work alongside a more recently delivered L220E. The new Volvo machine has been fitted with a 5.4m³ straight lipped bucket to move around 2000tonnes of material each day. The loader extracts up to 11tonnes of sand directly from the face and carries it on one way hauls of up to 400m to field hoppers that feed into a conveyor system.
