Cemex has announced that all 167 wind turbines erected as part of the EURUS project in Mexico are now fully operational and is capable of generating 250MW of electricity. The €367million development will reduce CO2 emissions by 600,000tonnes each year.
The project at Juchitan, Oaxaca in Mexico has been jointly developed with Acciona and powered generated at the plant will meet 25% of Cemex’s energy needs in the country. Work on the project started in July last year and the first of the turbines was connected to the electrical grid in February 2009.
