Construction materials slump in Leningrad

In 2009, the production of rocks and aggregates, which make up the largest part of construction materials, dropped by 20.5% to €542.67 million in the Leningrad region of Russia.

Deposits of the Leningrad region produced 24 million m³ of rocks and aggregates, down 23.7% against 2008.

Cement production dropped by 28.8% to 1.9 million tonnes and the precast concrete products market slumped the deepest (down 43% to 350,000m³).

According to Anatoly Katalevich, chairman of the Construction Committee of the Leningrad region, demand for construction materials will rise by 6-8% in 2010.
