Investigation call over Italcementi merger failure

Adam, the association of minority shareholders, is asking the French financial market authority to investigate the reasons why the proposed merger of Italian cement manufacturer Italcementi with its subsidiary Ciments Francais failed.
The merger plan was announced in February when Italcementi, the world's fifth largest cement maker by production capacity, said it would buy out the near 18% of Ciments Francais it did not already own.
On 19 June, Italcementi and Ciments Francais said they had suspended a final decision on their merger in the face of discussions with US holders of notes issued by Ciments Francais in 2002 and 2006 totalling US$500 million.
