HeidelbergCement says it has been ranked the leading company in the cement sector for sustainability for the second year in a row.
The building materials manufacturer received the ranking from international non-profit organisation CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project), which has published the results of its company sustainability ratings for 2018. As in 2017, HeidelbergCement received scores of A- in the categories of “climate change” and “water”.
CDP rates the commitment and transparency of companies with respect to environmental and climate protection with scores ranging from A (highest possible score) to D-. The goal of the ratings is to promote competition in the area of sustainability and encourage corporates to set ambitious environmental protection targets. About 7,000 companies provided data on their actions regarding climate change, water security and deforestation.
“This is a strong confirmation that we are on the right track with our Sustainability Commitments 2030," said Dr. Bernd Scheifele, chairman of the managing board at HeidelbergCement. "The excellent result encourages us to further reduce our ecological footprint across all business lines and on a global level."
