Miller Plant's new Doosan DX255LC-5 crawler excavator
Miller Plant, based at Inverurie in Aberdeenshire in Scotland, has purchased new Doosan crawler excavators and a new Doosan wheeled loader from Balgownie, the local authorised Doosan and Bobcat dealer. Balgownie has supplied new Doosan DX225LC-5 22 tonne and DX255LC-5 25 tonne excavators and a new DL420-5 wheeled loader to Miller Plant.
Alan Miller, managing director of Miller Plant, said: “We are very happy with the new Doosan machines – they make a good range of excavators, wheeled loaders and dump trucks. Another important aspect is the service available from Balgownie, who arranged a very attractive package for the machines that includes 5-year warranty. As they are doing more than 60 hours a week each, the machines come with the peace of mind that is provided by 5-year warranty cover and Balgownie’s always fast response to our requests and service support.”
Aimed mainly at the Aberdeenshire market and the surrounding areas, Miller Plant offers a wide range of services from bulk earthworks and contract crushing and screening to plant hire, site clearance, demolition, aggregate supply and heavy haulage and tipper hire. The distinctive offering covers an extensive client base from the civil engineering, quarry, housebuilding, energy, forestry, agricultural and public sectors.
Alan Miller added: “The Aberdeenshire market has always been a busy one – as shown by the new 25 tonne Doosan excavator, which as soon as it arrived, went straight out to work the same day on a contract crushing and screening job. We’re exceptionally proud of our reputation, and the heritage on which it’s built and as a family business, it is now in its third generation.
“Established in 1968, we originally serviced local authorities as well as the regional agricultural and construction industries. The oil and gas industry’s emergence, and the resultant demand for commercial and residential property and infrastructure, had a transformative effect on our business. It was the catalyst for an evolution that continues apace today.”
Meeting the latest Stage IV emission regulations, the Doosan DX255LC-5 offers enhanced comfort and controllability together with new features to boost uptime and return on investment, with a focus on increased power, robustness and agility. This unparalleled level of excellence is signified by a distinctive new machine styling scheme that is common to all new Doosan ‘-5’ machines.
Whilst overall dimensions are very similar to the previous DX255LC-3 model, the DX255LC-5 Stage IV excavator combines greater power with a 500kg increase in operating weight, resulting in increases of up to 17% in lifting capacities over both the front and side and a 1dBA reduction in sound levels.
With a bucket capacity of 4.5m³, the DL420-5 is powered by the Scania DC13 6-cylinder engine producing 254kW of power at 1800rpm. Providing generous torque at low rpm, up to a 10% reduction in fuel consumption and excellent response, the Scania engine meets Stage IV emission regulations without the need of a diesel particulate filter (DPF), through the use of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and selective catalyst reduction (SCR) after-treatment technologies.
Powered by the well-proven 6-cylinder, turbocharged Doosan DL06P water-cooled diesel engine, providing a high power output of 124kW at 1800 RPM, the DX225LC-5 combines plenty of power with high torque at a lower RPM, ensuring smoother, higher torque performance and longevity than some competitors using 4-cylinder engines which run at higher revs. In addition, the DX225LC-5 offers very good performance levels in terms of speed, power and stability, especially the traction force and slew torque which are much higher than those in other machines, while also delivering extra lifting capacity. Machine noise (2000/14/EC, ISO 6395) has been reduced by 1dBA.
All three of the new Doosan machines at Miller plant are factory-installed with the new DoosanConnect state-of-the-art wireless fleet monitoring system.
Alan Miller continued: “I think the DX255LC-5 and DL420-5 will be primarily involved in the quarry and contract crushing and screening sides of the business, whilst the DX225LC-5 has become part of our plant hire operation. We have one of the biggest and most comprehensive fleets in the north-east of Scotland - all our operators have been very positive about the new Doosan machines and they have become an important part of the fleet.”
In addition to the full range of Doosan crawler excavator and wheeled loader models, Inverurie-based Balgownie is responsible for sales and servicing of the Doosan wheeled excavator and articulated dump truck ranges in Aberdeenshire, Morayshire, Angus and the Highlands as well as Perthshire and Kinross-shire. The company is also the Authorised Bobcat dealer for the same area.
Balgownie started trading as an engineering company in 1907 in sheet metal work and tank manufacturing, supplying to shipyards, farmers and the food industry before diversifying into the manufacture and supply of dairy equipment. Today, Balgownie is one of the leading specialists in construction, tractor, trailer, agriculture and groundcare machinery sales in Scotland.
