Komatsu's new HM300-3 ADT offers improved productivity
Improved traction, comfort and durability are promised by Komatsu's new HM300-3 articulated dump truck (ADT) which has just been launched
The new 52tonne machine offers a payload of 28.1tonnes and features a completely redesigned traction control system, as well as an optimised cabin design.
The HM300-3 is powered by a Stage IIIB compliant 242kW Komatsu SAA6D125E-6 engine to provide increased power with lower fuel consumption and emissions. Komatsu has developed a hydraulically actuated Komatsu Variable Geometry Turbocharger (KVGT) and an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve, resulting in better precision and air management as well as longer component life. The Komatsu Diesel Particulate Filter (KDPF) has an integrated design that will not interfere with daily operation but keeps the operator aware of its status
The Komatsu Traction Control System (K-TCS) automatically provides optimum traction when operating in soft ground conditions. As ground conditions worsen and tyre slippage is detected by speed sensors located on four wheels, automatic application of the inter-axle diff lock occurs. If tyre slippage continues to be detected then four independent brakes can be applied to slipping wheels to regain traction.
A six-speed, fully-automatic transmission that uses an advanced electronic system to eliminate shift shock and torque cut off to improve operator and power train efficiency. It automatically selects the ideal gear based on vehicle speed, engine rpm and the shift position chosen, which results in a powerful acceleration, smooth down shifting and synchronised engine speed when climbing slopes. This ultimately minimises operator fatigue, keeps the load in the body and increases productivity.
A large automatic retarder system allows the operator to select the
optimum operating speed on downhill travel under full load, allowing a save operation under a wide scope of working conditions.
In the cab a new rounded front dash panel features easy to reach switches and a new high back, heated air ride seat with two-point seat belt improves operator comfort. A high resolution LCD monitor features enhanced capabilities and displays information in 25 languages for global support. With the monitor, the operator can easily modify settings for items such as the Auto Idle Shutdown or the auto-reversing fan; check operational records, such as driving history or fuel consumption; or check the time remaining before the next required maintenance. The monitor also offers the option of using the ECO Guidance function, which provides operational tips to reduce fuel consumption. A separate high resolution back-up camera is standard with every machine and is mounted on the right hand side of the console for operator convenience.
