Cementos Argos is to transport 70,000 tonnes of cement by train along the Belencito - Bogotá and Puerto Triunfo - Puerto Wilches routes in Colombia in 2021.

The company says this represents an increase of 30% from the 50,000 tonnes it transported along these routes in 2020.

This sustainable transport alternative has enabled Argos to reduce 321 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) last year, the company adds.

The move is allowing Argos to avoid road wear, save on fuel consumption and reduce vehicle congestion.

Currently, Cementos Argos is using the Belencito - Bogotá corridor three times a week and began operations on the Puerto Triunfo - Puerto Wilches section.
