Weir Minerals Europe is expanding its operations in Poland, with the opening of a new site in Leszno

2836 Weir Minerals Europe is expanding its operations in Poland, with the opening of a new facility in Leszno. The centre is three times the size of the existing facility and incorporates increased office space, a specialist training area and two overhead cranes – one 20 metres high.  Both cranes enable Weir Minerals’ engineers to work safely on the largest and heaviest products in the range, such as the 12tonne Trio TP 260 cone crusher.

Bruce Cooke, Weir Minerals Europe’s comminution general manager, said: “The success of our activities in Europe meant that the team outgrew the existing facility in Poland in a relatively short space of time. The new centre enables us to keep a sizeable inventory, incorporate training and testing facilities, and offer better support to customers who require customised products for their applications.

“The cranes will allow our operatives to move the largest items of Trio equipment safely and enable them to carry out comprehensive maintenance in the workshop area.

“A further benefit is that the plant is very close to a major new highway which connects all the key freight routes throughout Europe.”

A number of jobs have been created as a result of the expansion and the growing install base of 669 Trio products, with more likely to follow.

The official opening took place at the end of September, when guests enjoyed a tour of the facility, met with the Weir Minerals team and gained an insight into the company’s latest initiatives within the comminution sector.

The Leszno facility will become one of the company’s key facilities for Trio products in Europe, holding a comprehensive inventory of products and spare parts.

The centre will play an important role in helping the local team in Poland manage both the demands of the growing customer base and requirements for replacement parts.

As a result of the increased space at the new centre, the team will be able to offer on-site manufacturing services including, fitting screen decks, changing crusher liners, and some equipment assembly. It is anticipated that screen assembly will take place at the facility in the near future.

A section of the premises will be dedicated to aftersales care.  The Weir Minerals maintenance team will train customers’ service personnel and engineers in key areas such as equipment maintenance, and how to spot the signs that repairs may be required.

The official opening ceremony took place on Friday 29 September 2017.
