CEMEX USA is expanding its concrete block business in Florida, recently restarting two plants and soon restarting a third while accelerating production to meet heightened construction demand across the state.

Over the last year, CEMEX USA has invested more than $17 million in its block operations and mobile equipment in Florida to help customers keep up with the explosive growth in the region. The company has restarted its Ft. Pierce block plant and its Four Corners block plant in Davenport to increase supply. In addition, CEMEX is expected to bring a third block plant online this summer, Waters Ave. in Tampa, to further boost supply.

“Concrete block is integral for residential construction here in Florida. The high demand for new single-family homes has strained supply across the state,” said CEMEX USA Regional President—Florida Region Jeff Bobolts. “By investing in our operations, CEMEX is working to alleviate some of those issues while giving customers additional supply sources to obtain the products they need.”

Last year CEMEX USA produced more than 100 million units of block from its 18 operational concrete block production lines across Florida to help meet increased demand. Concrete block helps builders comply with the state’s residential construction codes that require structures to stand up to extreme wind in the hurricane-prone region. The resilient and sustainable building material also increases energy efficiency and fire resistance.

CEMEX is the largest supplier of building materials in the state of Florida. In addition to its concrete block operations, its Florida network includes three cement plants, more than ten strategically located cement terminals, more than 20 aggregates facilities and approximately 80 ready mix plants. CEMEX continues to seek opportunities to grow its operations across Florida and the United States.
