The level of aggregates recycling continues to increase in Great Britain.

Around 45 million tonnes of aggregates were recycled at processing plants in 2015, according to marketing specialist, BDS Marketing Research Ltd.

Recycled aggregates now represent an estimated 20% of the total aggregates market in Great Britain.

These conclusions form part of the BDS Directory of Aggregates Recycling Plants which lists all known operations in the country. The consultancy has identified around 650 plants, operated by 460 companies.

BDS has also identified a number of major planning consents for new sites. These will bring on stream capacity to handle a further 2 million tonnes/year.

” Tarmac is the largest recycled aggregates company in the country. However, this is primarily a local market, no business has more than a 5% national share. Some of the aggregates recycling plants now produce over 300,000tonnes a year,” says Andy Sales of BDS.

“This sort of volume is higher than many sand and gravel pits. Most construction and demolition waste will be reused at the building site. Where this is not possible, most waste will then be sent to a recycling plant. Limited volumes are now sent to landfill.”

BDS says its report is the only source of information listing all known aggregates recycling plants in the country. As well as providing plant address details and outputs, contact names and office addresses in all of the recycling companies are also included.

Further details of the report, BDS Directory of Aggregates Recycling Plants, is available by contacting Andy Sales at BDS Marketing, +44 (0)1761) 433035 or
