Ambuja Cement is running a drive to collect and process the waste accumulated during the India-England T20 five-match cricket series.
The initiative is part of the global Net Zero pledge of Ambuja Cement owner LafargeHolcim. Ambuja Cement says it has taken on the onus of collecting and managing waste during the ongoing T20 Series in Ahmedabad ,which began on March 12 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Ambuja Cement says that sporting events create massive amounts of waste and have a large carbon footprint. The 5-match series at the world’s largest cricket stadium will create 3-4 tonnes of waste and approximately 1 tonne of single use plastic.
As official partners of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Ambuja Cement, supported by Geocycle, the waste management solutions unit of LafargeHolcim, says it will carry out this clean-up initiative from March 12-March 20 after the matches have taken place.
Enabling a circular economy model, the collected waste will be re-purposed and safely managed through co-processing in the cement kiln at Ambujanagar plant in Gujarat. This technology is recognised globally and is one of the safest methods of waste management. By supporting Ambuja Cement with its expertise and knowledge, Geocycle is leading the way in making our planet a better place for future generations.
