Anderton Concrete has implemented a major investment programme to further expand its precast concrete portfolio and extend its bespoke UK manufacturing capabilities to meet increasing market demand.

The dedicated activity programme, which forms part of a two-year strategic development plan, will improve Anderton Concrete’s standard and bespoke manufacturing to support construction professionals in meeting the most demanding specifications.

The investment includes installing a new crane system, which can facilitate the manufacture of bespoke precast concrete units up to 10 tonnes (t), double that of its previous capabilities. This has enabled Anderton Concrete to bolster its precast concrete troughing range by manufacturing single units from 77kg up to two tonnes in weight, to support high profile projects throughout the utilities, highways and infrastructure sectors.

A new precast batching plant has also been installed, featuring aggregate belts and aggregate hoppers, combined with a new Teka Mixer and automated washout system. The latest Teka Mixer will eliminate the requirement for manual wash out to streamline and maximise operations by producing batches up to 1,800kg. The cycle time will also be reduced from 10 minutes to three minutes, increasing capacity from 25t to 250t per day in a single shift.

The installation achieves a fully automated process for wet and semi-dry mixing that delivers high accuracy and repeatable production quality whilst facilitating increased flexibility for alternative mix designs and surplus capacity for product expansion whilst enhancing efficiency and safety. The investment also ensures compliance with Tolerance requirements (BS EN 206 / 13669) and Traceability standard requirement (BS EN 206 / 13669).
These key investments will improve consistency and efficiency of production by delivering the highest repeatable product quality across the company’s diverse portfolio of bespoke and stock precast concrete products whilst simultaneously ensuring continuous operation through a reduction in downtime.

Shaun Forrester, commercial director for Anderton Concrete, said: “As a business at the heart of building, we are continuously analysing how we can enhance our operational performance and manufacturing capabilities to consistently meet the requirements of the UK construction industry.

“The investment we have undertaken at our manufacturing sites has not only enabled us to expand our standard and bespoke range but has simultaneously aided us in improving the sustainability of our operations by proactively reducing the quantity of embodied carbon within our products.”

Part of Anderton Concrete’s plans to deliver service excellence includes investing in the right people. Alongside the company’s commitment to developing its workforce, some specialists are also being recruited to help the company manufacture more sustainable products without compromising performance or efficiency.

Forrester continued: “This is just the start for Anderton Concrete. With further investment planned throughout 2022, we will continue to meet the increasing demand for high-quality precast concrete units across a variety of industries.”
