Astec has launched the “groundbreaking” Vari-Frequency technology implemented on its 6203 LP Horizontal Screen, a next-generation solution built to boost screening performance. The new design is said to minimise blinding and maximise uptime, giving producers a smarter, more reliable way to keep processing material.

Installed on the bottom deck of a horizontal screen, the patented Vari-Frequency deck significantly increases throughput and efficiency while minimising plugging and blinding—two of the most common challenges in screening operations. The live portion of the deck’s flexible surface is supported by a system of tensioned cables that create rapid, localised g-force spikes across the screen, stimulating the screen media and material to maintain throughput.

“This launch represents a major step forward for producers who want to increase throughput without adding complexity. The addition of Vari-Frequency Technology to horizontal screens provides customers with a smarter, more productive way to process materials, even in demanding applications. It’s another example of how Astec is bringing industry-changing solutions to the market, and we’re excited to expand this technology across more of our screening lineup. We can’t wait to showcase the 8-ft model at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026,” said Michael Norris, Group President, Materials Solutions, Astec.

Built for standard side-tensioned screen cloth and requiring no external power source, the Vari-Frequency technology provides an adaptable, energy-independent solution that seamlessly integrates into existing systems. Its development was driven by extensive testing and customer collaboration to ensure reliable performance in demanding conditions.

“The screen has been a total game-changer for our production. It has had a huge impact on our output and what we’ve been able to accomplish on-site. The efficiency it brought allowed us to get more done, faster,” said Damon Eggert, Operations Manager at Perkins Cinders.

Key features of the Astec Vari-Frequency Horizontal Screen include:

  • Increased Efficiency & Throughput: Innovative deck design delivers significantly higher throughput.
  • Reduced Blinding: Flexible, cable-supported deck generates screen media vibration spikes to minimise buildup.
  • Low Maintenance: Cleaner screen media reduces the need for manual cleaning and downtime by eliminating the requirement to climb between decks.
  • Energy Independent: Operates without external power for cost-effective performance.
  • Seamless Integration: Screens with Vari-Frequency technology will be interchangeable with standard units, allowing for replacement or a performance upgrade.

As part of Astec’s broader commitment to continuous innovation, the company plans to incorporate Vari-Frequency technology into additional screen models across its robust product portfolio. Attendees of ConExpo/ConAgg 2026 will have the opportunity to preview the 8ft model, the next piece of equipment in the technology rollout.

The Vari-Frequency Horizontal Screen is said to continue Astec’s legacy of designing durable, practical, and forward-thinking equipment that meets the evolving needs of producers worldwide.
