bauma CTT RUSSIA 2018 is preparing for its own big kick-off – just days before the country hosts the FIFA Football World Cup on Friday 15 June.

From 5th-8th June, Moscow’s IEC Crocus exhibition center will become the meeting place for the global construction, quarrying and mining equipment and technology industries.

A total of 550 exhibitors from 30 nations have registered for the major event, the largest of its kind in Russia, with an exhibition area of 61,000m₂.

Besides the regular major players that have always showcased their products and services at the event, there will be some new additions. One example is the company Doka, who will be at bauma CTT RUSSIA for the first time. Other exhibitors, for example XCMG, will make a comeback in Moscow in 2018 after a break of several years.

This year, the joint pavilions of major manufacturing nations will also be well attended. China’s pavilion will have 111 exhibitors, followed by the German and Italian pavilions with 34 and 24 companies, respectively. The Finnish country booth will be home to five key national firms.

In addition to the mostly static presentation in the halls, the 2018 edition of bauma CTT RUSSIA for the first time will feature a demonstration area outdoors. On a surface area of 3,000m₂, visitors will be able to enjoy live demonstrations of construction equipment from the likes of Amkodor, John Deere, GEHL, Kobelco, Locust, Manitou, SDLG and Wacker Neuson.

One reason for the high exhibitor participation is the current upward trend in the Russian construction industry. The economic development agency of Germany – Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) – refers to a “cautious spirit of optimism”. In Moscow alone – the venue of bauma CTT RUSSIA – there are plans for high investments: under the major urban redevelopment program, almost 5,200 prefabricated Khrushchyovka buildings in need of rehabilitation shall be demolished to create 2.7 million square meters of new living space in the next years. And by 2020, the capital plans to invest €5.8 billion in road constructions and €11.2 billion in the expansion of the Moscow Metro. Furthermore, Russian Railways are to start the construction of the Moscow-Kazan High-Speed Railway this year.

According to the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), Russia currently ranks ninth among the most important markets for German machine manufacturers, with a focus on construction and building material machines. Last year, the federation observed a turnaround: after four years that saw a downward trend, German companies could sell machinery and facilities worth €5.3 billion to Russia – 22.5% more than in the previous year.

The bauma CTT RUSSIA 2018 exhibition’s lecture and discussion event ‘Construction equipment industry in transformation: drivers of success’ promises to provide in-depth and latest insights into the state and company strategies in relation to the Russian construction equipment market. Staged by the event organiser and the Association of European Business (AEB), the discussion will take place at 1pm on Tuesday 5 June. Speakers from politics and associations as well as representatives from industry shall ensure a high degree of practical relevance. Figures from, for example, Volvo, RM-Terex, Liebherr, John Deere, Chetra, JCB and Specavtoprom were invited. Some of them have already confirmed their participation.

Another topic tackled at bauma CTT RUSSIA 2018 will be the construction industry’s educational standards. Two WorldSkills demonstrations aim to make the subject more vivid, competitive and entertaining. WorldSkills is an international performance comparison of young professionals in non-academic professions. At the trade fair’s outdoor area, the extended national WorldSkill teams will conduct open training and internal competitions in two areas of competence ‘Concrete construction work’ and ‘Heavy equipment maintenance’.

The last bauma CTT Russia trade fair in June 2017 attracted 557 exhibitors from 30 countries and 20.000 participants, mainly from CIS countries.
