An Indian quarry operator is using a Sandvik BA2424 hydraulic breaker to increase basalt production at its facility in Gujarat State.

Amrut Quarry, a pioneering quarry operator, selected the new Basic Line breaker to help increase productivity levels. Charged with secondary, post-blast boulder breaking, the breaker is spearheading an upgrade to a quarry that has 17.5 million tonnes of reserves and a life expectancy of at least another 20 years.

The 36-plus hectare Amrut Quarry is owned by Sri. Kamal Bhai, a well-known figure in Indian quarrying circles and vice-president of Gujarat State Quarry Owners’ Association.  He has a reputation as an industry pioneer with a willingness to try new machines and methods to stay at the forefront of the extractive business.

When the company decided to increase production levels at the site, it was this willingness to experiment that led Bhai to local Sandvik dealer, Mass Enterprises.  Although his company had never run Sandvik equipment previously, he says he was initially attracted by the company’s reputation for equipment reliability and durability.

The company reports that it was not seeking exceptional levels of technology, but a tough, durable breaker that could break boulders reliably for up to eight hours/day, and the “Sandvik Basic Line breaker proved to be the ideal solution to the company’s needs.”

Basic Line breakers, said to be simple in design, utilise fewer working parts for reduced maintenance and lower owning and operating costs.
“Although simple, the Basic range still benefits from proven Sandvik technology and the use of genuine Sandvik parts to ensure optimum precision, superior levels of durability, and a long working life,” says the company.

Mounted on an Hitachi EX200 hydraulic excavator, the 1,670kg Sandvik BA2424 is charged with reducing boulders of up to 1m in size down to the >600mm feed size demanded by the site’s crusher.  Equipped with a blunt tool for optimum breaking force in this demanding application, the BA2424 is said to be consistently achieving output levels in excess of 500tonnes/day.

To maintain this level of productivity, Amrut Quarry has “put its faith in the aftersales service expertise of Mass Enterprises.” Having provided the initial operator training, Mass Enterprises continues to provide full support of the Basic Line breaker with regular inspections and maintenance and the provision of genuine Sandvik spare parts.

“The training, service support and spare parts supply we have received from Mass Enterprises has been excellent,” says Amrut Quarry partner Kamal Patel.  “We look forward to receiving the same high levels of support in the future.”
