Breedon Group, a leading vertically-integrated construction materials group in Great Britain and Ireland, has acquired Thomas Bow Limited from Nottingham City Council.

TBL, an East Midlands asphalt, surfacing and civil engineering business that delivered annual revenue of around £29 million in the year to March 2022, is said to be a natural fit with Breedon’s local business model and “entrepreneurial culture”.

A Breedon spokesperson said: “We have been working successfully in partnership with TBL for the past four years through our joint venture, Breedon Bow Highways Limited. We are pleased to have this opportunity to continue to grow our presence in the East Midlands and secure a route to market for Breedon’s upstream surfacing materials. In addition, we are delighted that Alistair Bow will be continuing as Managing Director of TBL, along with his senior team.”

Aggregates Business has reported how Breedon made an encouraging start to the year, with order intake and volumes following usual seasonal patterns through the first three months of 2022.

The group says that end markets remain supportive, leading to reported and like-for-like revenue growth of 16% over the first quarter of 2021.

On 1 May 2022, Whitemountain Quarries Ltd, Lagan Asphalt Ltd, and Lagan Materials Ltd rebranded as Breedon Ireland.
