Breedon Group (Breedon) has unveiled plans to secure the future of North Cave Quarry, Brough near Hull, England, for the rest of the decade.
North Cave Quarry has been a key contributor to the local economy in the East Riding of Yorkshire and the Humber’s construction market for a generation. However, the quarry’s existence is at risk, as reserves will run out in the coming years.
As such, Breedon, a leading vertically integrated UK and Ireland construction materials group, is bringing forward its plans to extend the quarry to the northwest, securing its future, along with existing jobs at the quarry and within the local supply chain. The development will also secure a significant supply of high-quality sand, gravel and clay to meet the demands of the region’s construction markets.
The quarry has also created the North Cave Wetlands Nature Reserve, one of the UK’s most successful quarry restoration schemes. Extending the quarry may also provide opportunities to extend the Wetlands, further enhancing the environment and the reserve’s social and economic benefits.
Ahead of submitting a planning application for the development, Breedon has launched a public consultation to ensure awareness and understanding of the quarry’s operations. The consultation will run for two weeks from Monday, 20 November, and close on Monday, 4 December 2023.

Breedon has launched a dedicated project website at www.northcavequarry.co.uk as part of the consultation process.
The website will serve as a comprehensive resource, providing detailed information about the proposed extension and an opportunity for the community to engage and provide feedback.
Breedon will also host a drop-in event at North Cave Village Hall, HU15 2NJ, where team members will be on hand to answer questions about the scheme. The event takes place on Wednesday, 29 November, between 2pm and 7pm.
