BUA Group has commissioned its new US$350million Kalambaina cement plant in Sokoto, Nigeria. The plant is located in the north east of the country, has a 1.5million tonnes/year production capacity, a 32mw captive power plant and a coal mill. BUA Group has commissioned its new US$350million Kalambaina cement plant in Sokoto, Nigeria.
The plant is located in the north east of the country, has a 1.5million tonnes/year production capacity, a 32mw captive power plant and a coal mill.
It is designed as an environmentally-friendly facility that can run on coal, heavy oil or a mixture of both.
The plant was commissioned on 17 July by Nigeria’s Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
BUA Group says the new plant will create over 2,000 direct and 10,000 indirect jobs. It is being operated by the Kalambaina Cement Company (KCC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of BUA Cement, which is itself part of BUA Group. KCC is primarily engaged in the manufacture and supply of cement. It is also involved in limestone quarrying.
Founded in 1988 by Nigerian industrialist Abdul Samad Rabiu, BUA Group has holdings in cement, steel, sugar, agribusiness, real estate, edible oils, oil & gas, as well as port operations. It has business interests across Nigeria and an international presence in London, England.
