Kristal Kaye has been confirmed as the interim chief executive of CarbonCure Technologies after initially joining the company in February 2024.
Kaye has been installed as the interim CEO after CarbonCure Technologies founder Robert Niven stepped away from the CEO role.
Niven will remain on the company’s board of directors. He established CarbonCure Technologies in 2012 to make inroads into concrete sustainability.
“Founding and leading CarbonCure has been the honour of a lifetime, and I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together over the past 13 years,” Niven said
“From our award-winning innovations and strong industry partnerships to our lasting climate impact, none of it would have been possible without the extraordinary talent, passion and dedication of our team.
“Stepping back from day-to-day leadership of a company I love—one that has shaped so much of my life and career—was not an easy decision. But I’m very glad to continue serving on CarbonCure’s Board and supporting its ongoing success with full confidence in Kristal’s leadership.”
The company has licensed hundreds of its carbon dioxide injection systems to concrete producers. More than two dozen countries have adopted the systems. According to the company, this has helped reduce 600,000 metric tonnes of CO2 with 8.8 million truckloads of CarbonCure Concrete.
Pioneering
Kaye paid tribute to Niven’s achievements in the CEO role.
“Everyone at CarbonCure feels deep gratitude to Rob for his pioneering carbon utilisation innovation for lower carbon concrete and his tireless dedication to CarbonCure over the past 13 years, with many years of research and development before that,” she said.
“Stepping into this interim role, I am eager to carry Rob’s legacy forward, and our entire team remains committed to that mission, our core values and the success of our concrete producer partners around the world.”
Kaye joined the company in February as its chief financial officer after a career spanning 25 years across mining, energy and retail pharmacy.
CarbonCure Technologies board member William Holden welcomed Kaye’s promotion to the interim role.
“Kristal has the complete support of CarbonCure’s Board of Directors, with confidence that she will be a strong and steady chief executive, keeping the company focused and reaching new milestones,” he said.
“As CarbonCure begins a new phase, we are all profoundly grateful to Rob for his extraordinary vision in transforming his scientific concept into proven innovation and then commercial impact across the industry.
“Thanks to this solid foundation, a talented team and clear momentum, CarbonCure is well positioned for continued growth and tremendous impact in the years ahead.”
