JCB hopes to reduce the risk of theft on machines sold in the UK and Ireland with the announcement that 80% of the machines sold in these markets will be fitted with anti-theft devices as standard from this year. According to the company around £1million-worth of equipment is stolen every week in the region and currently just 5% of machines are recovered.

The company's backhoe loaders, telescopic handlers and tracked and wheeled excavators will now be fitted with JCB Guardian systems which feature an immobiliser and a tracker device. The tracker system will also be fitted as standard to wheeled loading shovels and range of Telemaster articulated shovels, while immobilisers will become standard on more compact machines.

JCB has said that insurance premiums on Guardian equipped machines could be reduced by 45% compared to a machine with no protection.
