CDE, a major supplier of sand and aggregate washing solutions for the waste recycling and natural processing sectors, is commissioning a new state-of-the-art plant near Lake Zurich in Switzerland.

Designed by Swiss engineering firm Inerta, the new plant will integrate CDE’s equipment to process excavated soil material sourced from across the region.

Inerta specialises in bespoke planning, design and installation for the treatment of excavated materials and recycled aggregates, contaminated sludge treatment, and industrial water treatments. The company works to create solutions for its customers by finding the appropriate suppliers to deliver proven solutions alongside their expertise.

Due to begin operating in early 2024, the new plant will be used by construction industry experts JMS, a leader in recycling and construction in the Zurich area with over 90 years of experience.

After signing the deal at bauma 2022 in Munich, CDE and Inerta collaborated to find the ideal solution for JMS.

With CDE’s expertise in wet processing and creating sustainable recycling solutions, Inerta’s deep know-how of the market and industry, and knowledge of local permissions and permits, together they devised a solution fit for the needs and wants of the end user. Due to the customer site’s existing facilities and buildings, the challenge was designing an interface that seamlessly integrates the old and new systems. Inerta applied the latest techniques in digital scanning to ensure the successful integration of the CDE washing technologies during the installation.

In recent years the reduction in landfill space and increasing disposal prices alongside high transport costs have created a high demand for the proper recycling and reuse of excavated soils. This led to the decision to expand operations at JMS. CDE’s solution will add to an existing plant to allow feed material to be processed at 100tph (tonnes per hour).

The solution will allow JMS to produce high-quality sand and aggregates to be repurposed in the local construction industry.

Commenting on the partnership, Inerta’s managing director Bruno Rosenberger said: “We have been really impressed with the dedication and expertise of the CDE team. After visiting another one of CDE’s plants in Switzerland that has similar technology to what we required, we knew we were making the right decision.

“We’ve seen CDE delivering proven solutions, which is at the heart of what we do, so we knew this partnership would result in creating a plant that meets JMS’ needs and wants whilst providing a world-class service.”

Andrew Wilson, business development manager for CDE, added: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Inerta on this project. With our 30 years of expertise in wet processing combined with Inerta’s knowledge of the Swiss market and their flexible approach to delivering the best solution to their customers, this is a collaboration that makes sense. We both have similar values and want to put sustainability and the centre of what we do. We’re looking forward to working together to build relationships for the future.”
