The Construction Equipment Association (CEA) has reacted to overnight news that Donald Trump has been elected as the 47th President of the United States.

In an official statement, Viki Bell, the CEA’s Director of Operations, said: “As we woke this morning (for those who did not stay up all night) to the news of a Trump victory in the US election, which was confirmed by winning the state of Wisconsin, we consider what this means for the UK Construction Equipment Industry. We hope the Trump administration will focus on growth, innovation, and technological advancement. As an organisation working for our members, with export being a significant part of what they do, we’re hopeful that trade policies will encourage open and fair exchanges. While the proposed universal tariffs and decoupling measures with China suggest a shift toward domestic focus, we trust these will be balanced to sustain valuable trade relationships and minimise unintended impacts.

“Our Prime Minister congratulated Trump earlier this morning with a statement reminding the President-elect of the UK-US special relationship and specifically mentioned innovation and tech. We know that innovation is what our members do best, so we wait to see what the new administration will bring.”

The CEA has been the trade association representing the UK construction equipment industry since 1942. The UK government recognises it as the industry’s voice.

CEA supports its members to achieve industry excellence through market and technical information and insights, networking, trade shows, exhibitions and events, and lobbying with the UK & European Governments.

The Association is represented in Brussels as active Committee for European Construction Equipment (CECE) members. The CEA’s influence is felt worldwide through its technical, regulatory and international trade work.
