European construction equipment group CECE and some of its member companies have met with members of the European Parliament to discuss EU policy on issues such as sustainability and competitiveness.

On September 17 and 18 the CECE public affairs team accompanied a delegation of member companies’ representatives to Strasbourg during the Plenary Assembly to meet MEPs that have been elected for the 2019-2024 parliamentary term. The delegation was composed of representatives of Caterpillar, Volvo CE and Komatsu, the latter represented by CECE president Enrico Prandini.

CECE says that the most urgent aspect of the meetings was a key request for the European Parliament at the beginning of the 2019-2024 mandate to create an intergroup focused on the sustainability and competitiveness of the European Industry. It added that several MEPs expressed their interest in this.

CECE says that the Parliament plenary assemblies at the beginning of the term are an excellent opportunity for stakeholders like itself to build relationships with the newly elected MEPs and strengthen the cooperation with the re-elected representatives. The same exercise was done earlier this year in July, where CECE had a total of 12 meetings scheduled with Members of key Parliamentary Committees.

The September meetings were held with high-level MEPs such as presidents of political groups, chairs and vice-chairs of parliamentary committees, coordinators of political groups or rapporteurs of specific files, in the field of industry, internal market, trade and e-privacy.

During the meetings, CECE says it presented its priorities with regard to a number of files and policies which are key for its sector. It adds that the meetings were also this was a suitable opportunity for its delegation to enquire about the next developments of a number of proposals mentioned in the programme of the new head of the European Commission Ursula Von der Leyen, notably in the field of environment, trade and industrial policy.
