The Cement Admixtures Association (CAA), the trade federation for the main UK admixture manufacturers, has become an affiliate member of the Mineral Products Association (MPA).
The agreement will enable MPA (which represents the aggregates, asphalt, cement, concrete, dimension stone, lime, mortar and silica sand industries in the UK) to provide support services to CAA and allow CAA to take a more active role in the vital work of MPA in promoting sustainable concrete and masonry construction, and its broader engagement with industry.
The MPA says that admixtures are a vital component of durable and sustainable concrete for modern construction, important in improving the properties of concrete, mortar or grout in the plastic and/or hardened state. CAA members are committed to offering the highest standards of product quality and support to their customers and encouraging and facilitating the wider use of admixtures within the building and civil engineering industries.
A founder signatory to the Concrete Industry Sustainable Construction Strategy launched in 2008, CAA and its members are committed to the principles of sustainable and responsible supply of construction and mineral products.
CAA chairman Christopher Fletcher said: “Modern admixture technology uses chemistry as an enabler to deliver innovation and sustainability for the cementitious & concrete producing industries. We believe that affiliation of CAA to MPA is an extremely positive step for both associations, providing closer liaison and a more collaborative environment for the beneficial development of admixture and concrete technology.”
MPA chief executive Nigel Jackson added: “We are delighted to have the CAA and its members as affiliates of the MPA. We look forward to increasingly close collaboration on our common objectives to improve the sustainability of key mineral products and promoting best practice in concrete and masonry construction.”
