CEMEX says it has delivered one million m3 of Vertua ready-mix concrete in Colombia since the product's launch two years ago. The carbon-cutting concrete was used in some of the most relevant projects in the South American country, negating the emission of 178,000 tons of CO2.

“In 2020, we launched Vertua concrete in the Colombian market with the expectation of having a positive response from the construction sector,” said Alejandro Ramírez, president of CEMEX Colombia and Peru. “Reaching one million cubic meters sold throughout the country two years later demonstrates that the construction sector in Colombia is rapidly migrating towards using concrete such as Vertua, which guarantees the highest resistance standards while reducing the carbon footprint.”

Vertua, CEMEX’s portfolio of sustainable and lower carbon products, is the linchpin of the company’s contribution to decarbonising the built environment and building a better, more sustainable future for all. One of the most accepted lower carbon products in the industry, Vertua has seen strong adoption across CEMEX’s markets. The company expects Vertua lower carbon products to account for most of its cement and concrete sales by 2025.

“Our short-term goal is to increase the volume of Vertua concrete in Colombia and strengthen our portfolio of sustainable solutions. Currently, CEMEX’s sustainability value offer includes products and services that reduce the carbon footprint of construction projects, support obtaining ‘green’ certifications, and promotion of the sustainable projects of our clients,” said Alejandro Ramirez.

Future in Action is CEMEX’s programme to achieve sustainable excellence through climate action, circularity, and natural resource management with the primary objective of becoming a net-zero CO2 company. Through Future in Action, CEMEX has achieved record-breaking progress in reducing its carbon footprint during the past 18 months.
