Global building materials supplier Cemex is working closely with key cross-industry partners to develop and drive more sustainable solutions across the EMEA region and decarbonise its operations.

One of the core focuses of these partnerships has been around promoting circularity and waste management. In Croatia, Cemex, alongside the City of Kaštela Council, established Reciklator, the first construction and demolition waste recycling facility in Split-Dalmatia County. With an annual processing capacity of approximately 30,000 tonnes, this facility is aligned with the EU’s 2030 objectives to reduce landfilling and increase circular solutions. It has also provided local communities with accessible and affordable opportunities for managing waste materials.

Furthermore, Cemex is working with its partners to implement more sustainable solutions for construction. In early 2025, the supplier launched a partnership with property developer Metrovacesa, which has seen its Vertua lower carbon products used in the construction of three residential projects in Eastern Spain. Over 19,500m3 of Vertua concrete were supplied for these projects, helping to avoid an estimated 1709 tonnes of CO2 being emitted during their construction. Alongside this, Cemex is collaborating with RMB ReadyMix Concrete to decarbonise the built environments in the UAE. Through this, Vertua cement has been fully integrated within RMB’s operational processes, reinforcing a shared commitment to more sustainable development.

Additionally, an agreement was signed with Statkraft, one of Europe’s largest renewable energy providers. Since January 2025, electricity produced from Statkraft’s wind and photovoltaic farms has been supplied to Cemex’s cement and readymix plants in Poland, covering approximately 30% of its annual energy demand in the country and enabling a greater reduction in its carbon footprint.

Paul Fletcher, head of sustainability for Europe at Cemex, said: “Cemex is proud to collaborate with organisations from different industries to drive sustainability across the EMEA region. Our mission is to become carbon neutral by 2050, and we believe a crucial way of achieving this goal is through forming strategic partnerships. By working closely with our partners, we can advance decarbonisation in our respective operations and develop solutions that our region’s communities can benefit from. Together, we are building a better future for all.”

Cemex R&D, Innovation and Business Development projects are part of the global R&D collaboration network, headed by Cemex Research Centers, based in Switzerland.
