Cemex UK supply chain director Dave Hart is the latest appointment to the UK Government’s Freight Council.
Hart will provide industry insight into the UK’s multimodal freight and logistics sectors in his new role on the council.
“Cemex occupies a particularly unique position within the freight sector utilising road, rail, river and sea to transport essential building and construction materials that support housebuilding, commercial developments, renewable energy and other essential infrastructure projects across the UK,” Hart said.
“As well as manufacturing significant volumes of precast concrete rail sleepers on which the UK’s national rail network lays its track, Cemex also then utilises this rail network to transport its materials and products to its customers – acting as both supplier and end-user.”
The construction materials provider operates over 20 quarries, two cement plants and 90 concrete mixing plants. It has a fleet of vehicles, locomotives and vessels that. Cemex uses rail as well as the inland waterways and UK coastline to transport materials. This includes using barges, tugboats, ships and dredging vessels to help reduce congestion on the road network.
The freight council is made up of members of government, business and trade associations. They work together in partnership to address key challenges in the industry including the national freight network, net zero, planning, employment, data and technology.
