CEMEX has pledged its support of Capital Hydrogen, a partnership between Cadent, SGN and National Grid Gas Transmission, which plans to deliver a transition to low-carbon hydrogen for gas networks in the East of England, South East and London.

As part of its participation, the global building materials giant has committed to working with Capital Hydrogen to assess the feasibility of implementing hydrogen-powered equipment and vehicles at its sites in London and give due consideration to decarbonisation opportunities arising from hydrogen availability when investing in its facilities across the capital.

The transition to low-carbon hydrogen will contribute to the Mayor of London’s commitment to the capital to be net zero carbon by 2030 and the wider UK government’s commitment to net zero by 2050.

CEMEX attended the recent launch of Capital Hydrogen in Westminster alongside stakeholders across the full hydrogen value chain.

Laurence Dagley, Operational Excellence and Business Development Director for CEMEX West Europe materials, said: “We are proud to support the Capital Hydrogen project, which ties in closely with our operation’s global sustainability strategy. Hydrogen represents an opportunity to decarbonise industry and provide access to a low-carbon fuel supply.

“We, therefore, understand the need to develop and build a hydrogen network through the repurposing of existing gas infrastructure as well as the creation of new gas infrastructure. CEMEX is already implementing the use of hydrogen within our global cement operations to reduce CO2, and we are excited to explore further future applications across our business.”

This is the latest example of CEMEX fostering partnerships with forward-thinking organisations to achieve true carbon neutrality, in line with the Future in Action program.
