Baron’s Haugh RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) Reserve near Motherwell in Scotland was the venue for the launch of Cemex’s new volunteer programme for the UK. Workers from Cemex’s Uddingston office and nearby operational sites volunteered under the Lendahand programme to remove invasive scrub, clear woodland and monitor birdlife at the reserve.

Workers from Cemex’s Uddingston office and nearby operational sites volunteered under the Lendahand programme to remove invasive scrub, clear woodland and monitor birdlife at the reserve.
The new programme entitles every Cemex UK employee to eight hours paid time off work to help out in their local communities or organisations each year, supported by the company.
Cemex senior area geologist Linzi McDade who volunteered for the programme at Baron’s Haugh said, “I hope that the time we spent through Lendahand will make a real difference, it was certainly rewarding for us. Working in the reserve helped me to visualise the habitats that we could create when we restore quarries that have come to the end of their lives and with the restoration of the land, the sort of wildlife that we could attract.”
