Cemex USA has been named in the Texan by Nature 20 (TxN 20) for its conservation efforts for the third consecutive year.

TxN 20is the official ranking by the Texas-led conservation non-profit of the same name founded by former first lady Laura Bush.

Each year, the TxN 20 recognises companies with operations in Texas across 12 industry sectors for their work in conservation. Honourees, likeCemex, are selected based on their dedication to conservation, demonstrated commitment to conservation via investment and volunteering, measurement and reporting of spending and impact on conservation efforts, and employee engagement.

Scott Ducoff, Cemex USA regional president—Texas Region, says: “Sustainability and conservation are integrated into our operations across Cemex, and we work to make positive contributions that can help protect natural resources and wildlife. We continue to seek additional opportunities to deepen our commitment to sustainability and demonstrate how industry and nature can thrive side by side, implementing programs that emphasise education, innovative technology and thoughtful land and resource conservation.”

Cemex says it demonstrates its commitment to sustainability and conservation through its strategic partnerships and environmentally friendly programmes.

In Texas, the company has partnered with landowner, Josiah Austin, in the El Carmen Land and Conservation Co to conserve an ecological corridor at the Texas-Mexico border, helping restore wildlife while retaining the natural desert landscape near Big Bend National Park. In addition, Cemex operations in New Braunfels are home to the Balcones Dry Comal Creek Wildlife Habitat Center that features more than 10 acres of restored prairie and pollinator gardens, as well as a vegetable garden and educational building for hands-on learning.

Cemex also implemented a water recycling plant at itsBalcones Quarryin New Braunfels, which it insists reduces the use of local water sources by 90%.

Texan by Nature CEO Joni Carswell says: “From actively managing 27,000-acres of Chihuahuan Desert, to providing educational activities for students, educators and other visitors at their Balcones Dry Comal Creek Wildlife Habitat Center in New Braunfels, Texas, to providing innovative lower carbon product solutions, Cemex exemplifies commitment to building a sustainable future. We are excited to honour Cemex’s leadership for the third year in a row as a leader in the construction & manufacturing Industry category for the 2021 Texan by Nature 20.”

Bush says: “Congratulations to this year’s TxN 20! Each year, I’m impressed by the leadership the TxN 20 honourees display. They are innovators, collaborators and changemakers. I am thrilled to celebrate their efforts, and I encourage other companies to follow their example. Together, we can secure a future where our economy, natural resources and communities thrive.”
