CEMEX has launched the company’s call for the 2022 CEMEX Building Award, which recognises the best buildings in Mexico (Mexico Edition) and the world (International Edition).

The call for the CEMEX Building Award is open to all construction professionals, who can register their projects and find the requirements online at www.premioobrascemex.com

The registered buildings can participate in five categories: Residential Housing, Affordable Housing, Building, Collective Space, and Infrastructure. In addition, it has four special awards: Universal Accessibility, Sustainable Building, Construction Innovation, and Social Value.

CEMEX says that, since its creation in 1991, the award has become a benchmark in the construction industry, recognising projects that stand out in design and innovation, promote the preservation of the planet and offer better solutions for their users and communities.

The contest promotes creativity and encourages the development of best construction practices while mapping out the innovations that will become the new industry standards of tomorrow.

In 2021, the Mexico Edition had 937 registered projects, of which 20 buildings were awarded, including the Casa Piedra in Acapulco, Guerrero; Heart of the Earth in Mérida, Yucatán; the Sanctuary of the Silkworm, in San Pedro Cajonos, Oaxaca; the Space for Reflection, at the Tecnológico de Monterrey; Estoa, at the University of Monterrey, in Nuevo León; Bridge No. 4 of the Toluca-Naucalpan Highway, in the State of Mexico and the “Señor de Tula” Sanctuary in Jojutla, Morelos.

In the International Edition, 44 buildings from 15 countries participated, including the Academy Of Fine Arts in Croatia; the Courts of Tortosa, House School Pool and Arts Pavilion, and Teleclub with Thermal Mattresses in Spain; the Vera Angelita School in Nicaragua, as well as the Pluvial Macrodrainage Damping Works in the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador in El Salvador.

Under the slogan ‘Ideas that build life’, the CEMEX Building Award recognises those buildings that begin as mere ideas and end up being constructions that give value to those who interact with them.
