Cemex has been involved in the 4km hydraulic concrete paving of the Periferico Paseo de la Republica (Paseo de la Republica beltway), one of the main avenues in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico.

This project is part of the first phase of the city modernisation, carried out by the state Secretariat of Communications and Public Works.

One of the primary objectives of this plan is to convert the highway in a beltway, with the goal of improving traffic for the more than 70,000 vehicles that circulate daily on this road.

To reach this objective, it was necessary to remove the existing pavement and replace it with hydraulic concrete, a material that is claimed to be more resistant, safer and has a longer life warranty.
“We have the experience of using this hydraulic concrete in other cities; therefore, we are sure that this is the appropriate solution, especially in urban landscapes where the vehicle flow is high, such as the city beltway,” said José Juan Dominguez Lopez, Michoacan Communications, and Public Works Secretary.

This is a first for Morelia, where a public infrastructure project used a hydraulic concrete paver, which is part of Cemex technological offer, securing efficiency, and precision in concrete placement.

“At Cemex we are working to bring the best solutions for our customer’s needs. We are proud to be able to participate in Morelia’s modernisation project, and bring our experience, products, and technology for the paving of such an important highway”, said Alejandro Vares, Cemex Mexico vice president of Sales for Government Infrastructure.

It is expected that, during the following months, the second phase of the Morelia Beltway will continue, during the Michoacan capital city modernisation project.
