Cemex has supported the development of core road infrastructure across Central Europe through the supply of its concrete, aggregates, and cement solutions.

The building materials provider says these projects will provide more efficient transport links between major urban areas, promote sustainability, and offer long-term benefits for road users.

In Northern Poland, Cemex has participated in the construction of a new 13km stretch of the S6 Expressway, a key transport route that will improve connections between Gdańsk, Szczecin, and the Polish-German border. Vertua® cement was provided for this highway project, enabling a lower-carbon footprint in its development phase.

Furthermore, Cemex delivered a speciality concrete mix for the D35 Motorway in the Czech Republic, an important corridor linking the towns of Hořice and Sadová, as well as the wider Bohemia and Moravia regions. Designed to offer enhanced resistance to frost, road salts and de-icing agents, this innovative solution ensures greater durability for the road surface, particularly during the winter months when conditions may be harsher, supporting safer journeys for drivers.

Ready-mix concrete was also supplied to construct a new two-lane overpass at the Nuremberg-East motorway junction in Germany, including the superstructure, abutments and piers. Approximately 600 metres long, this bridge will help ease congestion and improve traffic flow around the Nuremberg area, while providing a more efficient road link between the northeast and south of the country.

Graham Russell, VP for Cemex Materials Europe, commented, “Cemex is proud to have contributed to strategic highway projects across Central Europe. Supporting our vision to build a better and more sustainable future for all, these new transport routes deliver significant benefits for road users by strengthening connectivity, enhancing durability in colder temperatures, improving traffic flow, and helping to maintain safe road conditions. Together, we continue to support the development of vital road infrastructure across the EMEA region.”

Cemex R&D, Innovation and Business Development projects are part of the global R&D collaboration network, headed by CEMEX Research Centers, based in Switzerland.
