CEMEX has supplied the required cement and concrete for the Teruel Airport Platform (PLATA) in Spain, which is claimed to be the largest maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) airport in Europe.
The infrastructure project in Teruel, Aragon currently covers 340 hectares and can simultaneously park more than 250 aircraft. CEMEX supplied approximately 30,000 tonnes of cement, required to produce 100,000m3 of concrete to build facilities including two new hangars, the expansion of the parking platform, a runway of almost 3km, an industrial zone and terminals.
CEMEX supplied the materials in different phases of the construction of the airport. The airport’s current expansion phase requires approximately 40,000m3 of additional concrete, allocated to various facility components.

Alejandro Ibrahim, general director of Teruel Airport, commented: “Strong infrastructure growth is foreseen in the 2020-23 strategic plan with investments of more than 30 million euros in new hangars, platform, field pavements, and logistics warehouses. These facilities require a relevant use of concrete in our ongoing works and those that we are projecting.”
