Cemex is collaborating on a range of educational, environmental, and social initiatives to advance more sustainable development in communities across the EMEA region.

The building materials provider says the drive supports its wider Future in Action strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

In Poland, Cemex has been hosting a selection of ‘Green Workshops’, in which residents living near its sites are introduced to climate action, the circular economy, and other more sustainable practices. More than 1100 people participated in these workshops last year, fostering engagement and relationships with local communities.

Cemex is also collaborating in the Eco-Schools programme in Croatia, which aims to improve young people’s understanding of environmental stewardship. As part of this, students participated in an olive harvest activity at its Sveti Juraj – Sveti Kajo quarry in late 2025, gaining practical knowledge and experience in organic agriculture.

Also in Croatia, the company has supported the development of more sustainable community spaces. In Kaštel Sućurac, regular clean-up, landscaping, and tree planting activities have taken place on the town’s Gojača beach, helping to maintain and improve a popular recreational area. Alongside this, Photovoltaic systems have also been installed in local facilities, promoting the use of renewable energy sources within public buildings.

Cemex has partnered with local governments, communities, and NGOs for over 20 years to enhance biodiversity in areas near its Avensan quarry in France. Through these partnerships, former extraction sites and nearby nature reserves have been restored, with habitat management plans also implemented to preserve wildlife and natural environments. The initiatives at Avensan were recognised by France’s National Union of Aggregate Producers (UNPG) at its 2025 Sustainable Development competition, receiving the jury prize in the ‘Partnerships with local communities’ category.

Additionally, with the support of local organisations and residents, Cemex has been operating a long-term waste management project in Mankabad, Southern Egypt. Since 2013, discarded materials have been collected from narrow streets and alleys in the town and, where possible, processed as alternative fuels at its Assiut Cement Plant. This programme has addressed persistent challenges surrounding waste disposal in the community while promoting circularity and encouraging local participation.

Eva Masa Pinto, VP for sustainability and corporate affairs at Cemex EMEA, commented, “Driven by our Future in Action strategy, our ambition is to make a positive and lasting impact within our communities. Through close collaboration with NGOs, stakeholders, and other local groups across the region, we are delivering practical initiatives and solutions that can enhance quality of life, create long-term environmental and social value, and support the needs of future generations.”
