The Mexican cement firm has applied to the town council for a declaration of community interest for the project, plans for which are currently on public show.
The expansion will be on land owned by Cemex and presently occupied by cultivated land. The adjacent land is owned by Construcciones y Desarrollos Playa de Poniente, which has opposed the plan saying that the area is considered a natural park and such a project would have a lasting impact on its protected environment.
