The plant’s production has dropped over the duration of the crisis years, from 800,000tonnes per year pre-crisis to the current 350,000tonnes. A decrease in cement demand over the past six years has meant that the company has needed to find new market niches.
A new direction has been exporting to countries in North Africa, which have increased by 60% in the past two years: such exports account for 50% of the plant’s annual production, and they are continuing to grow.
