Cemex in Israel is supplying 20,000m³ of ready-mix concrete for a new, 800+ megawatt, electric power station, south of the city of Ashkelon.
Israel’s largest private power generating facility, the plant will house 12 gas turbines and two steam turbines, designed using combined cycle technology, to produce approximately 8% of Israel’s total electric power production capacity at prices competitive with Israel Electric Corporation, the country’s state-owned power system.
Cemex has especially modified the concrete supplied for the project to satisfy regional climatic conditions, work practices and local cement characteristics. Given the plant’s close proximity to the sea, the company used special admixtures to improve waterproofing, durability, and resistance to marine environments.
One of the types of concrete that Cemex supplied to meet the project’s specialised needs is Eco-Betonal, a sophisticated, innovative self-compacting concrete.
“Eco-Betonal provides especially high durability and self-healing properties, offering previously unknown levels of enveloping and adhering to steel. Because of its sustainable qualities, Eco-Betonal is widely considered one of the ultimate ‘green’ concretes,” says Cemex.
