Fund-raisers have dreamt up a colourful way of raising at least £75,000 (€92,000) for the NSPCC () in County Staffordshire, England, by auctioning off JCB machines in eye-catching shades other than traditional yellow.
The two machines, a golden skid steer loader and a wheeled loader, which will be painted in a colour of the auction winner’s choice, are up for grabs on www.jcbauction.com. The auction runs until Monday, 17 December.
The skid steer was bought by JCB’s kind-hearted UK dealer network and donated to JCB to auction off for the company’s £1 million (€1.23 million) appeal in aid of the NSPCC (the organisation helping to stop cruelty to children). A reserve of £25,000 (€30,800) has been set for the machine and already £5,000 (€6,000) has been bid.
The 416HT wheeled loading shovel has been donated by JCB Earthmovers, of Cheadle, County Staffordshire, where it is manufactured. The machine comes complete with a 1.7m³ shovel and is used widely in construction and agriculture. It has a reserve of £50,000 (€61,600) and £5,000 has been bid so far.
JCB Group HR director Joanne McAdam said: “From the outset of the appeal there have been some wonderful ideas to raise funds for the NSPCC and this is one of the most colourful yet. We are hopeful it will take us a big step closer to our appeal target.”
The money raised will go towards the company’s £1 million NSPCC appeal to support Carole House, a specialist NSPCC Centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme [County Staffordshire], which is dedicated to saving babies and young children across Staffordshire from abuse and harm.
The appeal has recently broken through the £750,000 mark [€924,000] and JCB Chairman Sir Anthony Bamford has pledged to double the appeal total once the £1 million target has been reached.
