Concrete and aggregates product company Dyckerhoff Basal’s Netherlands operation, Dyckerhoff Basal Nederlands BV, is said to be benefiting from using a variety of efficiency-boosting Command Alkon technology solutions.

Dyckerhoff Basal is a full subsidiary company of Dyckerhoff, which is part of the Italian group Buzzi Unicem. The group is active in 11 countries worldwide and has 11,000 employees. Dyckerhoff Basal Nederlands BV operates with its subsidiaries 14 ready-mixed concrete plants and one aggregates quarry.

Continuously looking for ways to improve its operations, plan for the future, and stay ahead of the competition, for its Dutch arm, Dyckerhoff Basal introduced several Command Alkon solutions for centralised management and production and transport optimisation. To streamline its operations, Dyckerhoff Basal Nederlands BV now integrates a full range of Command Alkon products, including CP: Process Control, CL: Quality Control, CM: Conactive Management.

Implementing an optimisation solution like CM: Conactive Management was a challenge, but one that Dyckerhoff Basal was willing to face. The biggest challenge when it came to the solution was the ability of the Dyckerhoff Basal Nederlands BV dispatch team to trust the tool. Putting your faith in a piece of technology can be difficult, mainly because the optimisation engine sounds like it’s too good to be true. The key, says Command Alkon, is to work with the optimisation engine, not rely on it. According to Command Alkon, you get the most value out of optimisation when human logic and the algorithms that the engine produces develop a symbiotic relationship.

“CM: Conactive Management has provided us with more insight into the daily planning of all of our [Netherlands] sites and has helped us to utilise our fleet better,” says Gerbrand Boltjes, IT manager at Dyckerhoff Basal.

The integration of CP, CL, and CM is said to bring value to Dyckerhoff Basal Nederlands BV because the shared information improves the company’s reporting and helps it to analyse data better and make more informed decisions.

“Command Alkon helps us to better service our customers because our different sites and locations can better collaborate,” concludes Boltjes.
