The NSSGA (National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association is counting down to its annual convention in Nashville, Tennessee, 27-30 March, and has given an insight into what attendees can expect.

In a message to members, Jen Dugas, NSSGA vice president of membership & events, says: “Nashville is ready to be the host of NSSGA’s 2022 Annual Convention and AGG1 Academy & Expo. Restaurants are bustling, and music can be heard from the street corners to the dive bars on Broadway and everywhere in between. So, get ready to honky-tonk, enjoy some HOT chicken and finally catch up in-person with your favourite NSSGA folks.”

Dugas says NSSGA members will be welcomed by excited association staff at the beautiful Omni Nashville, a well-appointed hotel that’s located directly across the street from the Music City Center, which is host to this year’s AGG1.

She continues: “The Omni is the perfect location to host the Annual Convention, and this year’s agenda is filled with important committee meetings, general sessions and breakouts. In addition, the Young Leaders will be getting an early start yet again with their annual 5k Walk/Run, which is open to all attendees on Monday morning.”

Dugas highlights how two general sessions will anchor the program on Monday and Tuesday mornings. First, on Monday morning is a Government & Regulatory Affairs update followed by a panel discussion on the importance of community relations. The topics addressed at the Annual Convention will set the stage for the NSSGA year.

In the afternoon, an add-on event of Rogers Group, Inc.’s Gallatin Quarry will allow members to tour a quarry that has transitioned from being in a rural town to now a suburban setting surrounded by residential and commercial growth. To maximise the natural resources for decades to come amidst a growing community, Rogers Group is transitioning mining operations on the site from open pit to underground over the next couple of years.

“On Tuesday, brought back by popular demand, is the CEO Roundtable 2.0, where our member CEOs will bring insights and an interactive discussion on leadership, building a team and keeping momentum during challenging times,” explains Dugas.

“New this year to the Annual Convention schedule are breakout sessions that address issues we’ve heard that are most important to you, our members.”

Dugas says the NSSGA’s Workforce Development task force will update members on work that has been done by the task force and the strategies it has uncovered so far to address challenges in the industry. This group is working on projects that address key issues, such as recruitment, retention, training and education. This is an interactive session, and the NSSGA invites all members to attend.

Dugas adds: “Alex Herrgott, president & CEO of the Permitting Institute, will discuss infrastructure permitting improvements.

“With 2021 being the year of infrastructure, in 2022, we now look to the mid-terms. Our seasoned team of Government & Regulatory Affairs experts will update members on what’s to come in 2022 in Washington.

“In addition to these informative sessions, NSSGA’s open committee meetings provide an exchange of ideas that further our industry.”
