Dangote Cement of Nigeria is reportedly considering setting up plants in Myanmar, Latin America, Indonesia and Nepal. The firm could contract China National Materials’ unit, Sinoma International Engineering, to build the plants. However, it has not made the final decision yet.
Dangote Cement had pledged over US$5 billion establishing cement plants in Africa 2012-2016. The ambitious company would spend $700 million of the sum in 2015, while another $1.2 billion investment would be made in 2014. It has already contracted Sinoma to build its cement plants worth billions of dollars in Africa.
According to Carl Franklin, Chief Investor Relations Officer of Dangote Cement, the company’s production capacity increased to an estimated 40 million tonnes in 2014 from 2011’s 8 million tonnes. By 2016, the figure would further rise to 50 million tonnes.
Meanwhile, three cement plants are being built by Sinoma in Nigeria for France’s Lafarge. A large part of the construction budget totalling $1.5 billion is going to the Chinese firm. Two of the three plants are already under construction.
