Develon is significantly broadening its portfolio of electric-powered excavators in what it says a response to rapidly expanding demand in some regions.

While electric construction equipment still represents a small portion of the overall market in most areas, progressive regions like the Benelux and Nordic countries are rapidly advancing.

Government mandates, regulatory frameworks and public demand in these areas have already driven a significant shift towards electrification.

Built on the company’s proven ‘-7 Series’ platform, the first wave of electric machines covers key segments across both compact and mid-size classes. The initial lineup includes: Electric Mini Excavators DX20ZE-7, DX23E-7, DX85RE-7; Electric Wheeled Excavators (10-20 tonne class) DX100WE-7, DX160WE-7K; and Electric Crawler Excavators (20 tonne class and above) DX230LCE-7, DX250LCE-7.

Develon says the new electric machines deliver identical performance to their diesel counterparts. At the same time, they introduce a new level of sustainability, efficiency, and operator comfort to the jobsite.

Following successful projects across the Netherlands and in the Scandinavian countries, Develon says it is confident in the maturity of the technology and its readiness for broader introduction.

The expanded electric lineup will be introduced in phases to support a smooth market rollout. The DX160WE-7 electric wheeled excavator and the DX230LCE-7 and DX250LCE-7 electric crawler excavators will be commercially available by the end of this year.

The DX160WE 7K (wheeled electric excavator) offers all the new features from ‘-7K’ generation of wheeled excavators combined with 100% electric drive. It features a 105 kW permanent-magnet motor and a LiFePO₄ battery pack capable of around 10 hours of operation under defined conditions. With an operating weight of approximately 17.3 t and a bucket capacity around 1.02 m³, the machine boasts the same digging and handling capability as a traditional diesel model—but now with zero point-of-use emissions and significantly lower noise levels, making it ideal for urban sites.

The DX230LCE 7 (crawler electric excavator) extends the electric portfolio into the medium crawler segment and is targeted for full performance in heavy applications. It combines advanced electric drive technology with the robust base architecture of the ‘-7’ series to deliver comparable production capacity to the diesel variant with operating time around 9 hours on one charge. The machine is designed with operator familiarity in mind – controls, attachments and service infrastructure align with the diesel model, while delivering the benefits of zero emissions, quieter operation and lower vibration.

At the top of the initial electric rollout is the DX250LCE-7 crawler electric excavator, designed for significant earthmoving and construction applications. The DX250LCE-7 has all the benefits of the DX230LCE-7 but with a larger battery pack, bringing the total operating time to 12 hours.

The DX100WE-7 electric wheeled excavator and the DX85RE-7 electric mini excavator will follow in 2026, completing the first wave of Develon’s electric range and covering all core segments from compact to mid-size machines.

Develon says its approach to electrification is built on practical innovation, strategic collaboration and a commitment to delivering the right solutions exactly when the market needs them. As a global manufacturer, it leverages its broad engineering capability while partnering closely with specialized European electric-drive and battery suppliers, ensuring every new model benefits from the latest technological expertise.

Rather than pursuing electrification in isolation, Develon adds that it has established a development model that is agile, collaborative and market-driven. By working directly with experienced system integrators and customers in leading electric markets, Develon is able to accelerate development cycles, validate technology in real applications and bring fully functional machines to market with confidence.

This partnership-driven strategy enables Develon to deliver electric excavators that match diesel performance while integrating advanced charging, powertrain and control solutions tailored for European jobsite requirements. As a result, Develon can introduce new models at precisely the moment contractors need them—supporting the continent’s rapid shift toward lower-emission, high-efficiency construction equipment.

As the company’s in-house teams and facilities continue to develop new electric models, Develon has also decided to work closely with external partners to manage product portfolio development and avoid overlap, ensuring a complementary and market-responsive offering.

In coming years, Develon says it will continue to leverage both centralised development and localized innovation to accelerate its electrification roadmap. The company remains focused on delivering high-quality, customer-driven electric solutions that reflect the rapidly changing demands of the construction industry.
