Doosan Infracore says it has received orders for 32 medium-sized, 22-ton DX220LC-9C excavators from two large Chinese building companies involved in infrastructure construction.
The excavators are earmarked for use in a major building project in the city of Changchun in Jilin province, northeast China. The project includes the building of a subway, expressway, and a bridge.
The large excavator orders, placed on 6 April 2020, are being hailed as an example of the recovery of the Chinese construction machinery markets following significant disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Yunseong Yeom, managing director of Doosan Infracore sales in China, said the building firm customers who placed the two orders are willing to purchase “at least ten more excavators”.
Doosan Infracore’s share of the Chinese excavator market was 7.3% last year, according to a spokesperson for the South Korea-headquartered manufacturer. The company’s excavator market share in the Jilin region was also somewhere between 10-19% for the last three or four years.
With accumulated excavator sales in February 2020 reaching 14,000 units, the Chinese excavator market shrank by half compared to the same month of 2019. However, 40,000 excavators were sold in March 2020 – closely resembling the previous year’s total. And Doosan Infracore expects the Chinese equipment market to continue to also reflect traditionally high demand in April and May.
