Construction of a new harbour in Finland is being fast-tracked following delivery of a new backhoe dredger from Hitachi, which is also helping to provide construction materials for the project. The barge-mounted EX2500-6 excavator was delivered to Wasa Dredging for work on the Mäntyluoto Pori harbour project.
Work to deepen the harbour by 13.5m started last year and the excavator is being used to dredge 320,000m³ clay and sand, and drill and blast 110,000m³ of bedrock, which is being reused on the project.
The EX2500-6 has two booms of 13.6m and 16m, and three arms of 7m, 9m and 11m. It is used with four buckets, ranging from 7.5m³ to 14m³, and its maximum dredging depth is 22m. The booms, arms and buckets were all designed and built by Wasa Dredging.
