On 1 August 2025, DSC Dredge celebrated the retirement of Ronald “Mac” McArthur, a valued member of its Engineering team whose career spans more than two decades of innovation, dedication, and camaraderie.

After 21 years of service, Mac transitioned into retirement, leaving behind what DSC Dredge describes as a “legacy of craftsmanship, collaboration, and quiet impact”.

Mac’s journey with DSC Dredge began in 1995 and resumed in 2007 after a brief hiatus. Over the years, he became a cornerstone of the drafting and design department, bringing with him a unique blend of precision, humility, and joy.

“From the start, Mac embraced every challenge thrown his way,” said Scott Laiche, VP of Engineering. “Whether it was a small improvement or a big project, he gave it the same level of thoughtful design and detailed execution. But more than that, Mac brought humour, heart, and humility into our engineering group every single day.”

Mac’s drafting expertise contributed to countless dredge designs that have grown in scale and complexity over the years. One standout project, close to his heart, was the New Orleans Port dredge, which he worked on upon returning to DSC. “That project was special to me,“ Mac reflected.

“It felt like a meaningful way to come back and contribute, and I really enjoyed it.”

He credits much of his development to the guidance and influence of key figures in his career: “Billy and Damon really shaped how I approached this work and helped me grow into it,“ Mac said. “I’ve grown with the company, and I think we’ve all grown together.”

Throughout his tenure, Mac was known not only for his meticulous drafting work but also for his generosity and support for others. “I always enjoyed helping people, joking and laughing, and just trying not to take life too seriously,“ he said. “That’s the legacy I hope I leave, that I was helpful, and that I brought some fun to the job.”

Bob Wetta, President and CEO of DSC, shared: “Mac’s contributions to DSC go far beyond technical drawings; he brought humour, mentorship, and a quiet excellence that helped shape our culture. His work is literally embedded in the dredges we build, and his presence will be missed, not just for his skill but for his spirit.”

Bill Wetta, Senior VP and CTO, added: “Mac was here in the early years when we were shaping the direction of the company, and he’s been part of the evolution every step of the way. He embodies what makes DSC special: commitment, humility, and always looking out for the team.”

As Mac looks ahead to retirement, he plans to focus on travel, music, and family time. His first trip? A music-lover’s dream tour through Clarksdale, Memphis, Nashville, and Muscle Shoals, tracing the roots of the genres that have inspired him for years.

To his colleagues, Mac leaves this message: “I’m grateful for the chance to contribute to DSC’s success. I’ve learned and grown during my time here, and I’ll always appreciate the relationships and memories I’ve made. Thank you all. It’s been a lot of fun.”

From all of us at DSC Dredge — thank you, Mac. You’ve left your mark, and you’ll always be part of the DSC family.
