Despite global economic uncertainty, Netherlands-based Dunlop Conveyor Belting says it is flying in the face of the tendency to contract and consolidate by expanding its network of Dunlop Service centresd, which supplies rubber conveyor belts as well as an all-year round belt fitting service.
Having already successfully established centres in Holland, Spain, Poland, Morocco, Italy and the UK, Dunlop has recently opened a sales and service centre, including a warehouse and splicing services, in Dubai.
Dunlop Conveyor Belting has been supplying conveyor belts made in its production factory in Holland to a wide cross-section of industry in the GCC for many years. However, despite its success, the company says it feels that the time has come to provide a more local and more personalised service as well as increasing the range of products and services that it offers customers in the Gulf Region.
The new facility, located in Jebel Ali, is being managed by Mr Klaas de Vries, who is already well known to many users of conveyor belts in the region, together with a team of highly experienced personnel recruited locally. Dunlop Conveyor Belting’s managing director, Edwin Have, sees this move as a strategically important investment for the company.
“The Gulf Region is becoming an increasingly important player on the world economic stage” says Have. “We want to play a bigger role in that success by being within much easier reach of our customers. We have been supplying conveyor belts to industries in the area for many years but now we want to go one step further and not only supply top quality conveyor belts but also the services and technical support and guidance that end-users need so that we are providing them with a total service”.
In addition to the new operations centre in Dubai, Dunlop says that it plans to open even more sales and service centres. The intention is to have these operational during 2013.
This latest expansion follows on from a string of major investments that the company has been making in recent times including a €6.4 million project to expand its production facilities in Holland as well as the construction of a steelcord production line and enhanced R&D facilities.
