Duo Group is helping Tungsten West Plc bring one of the UK’s largest tungsten mines back to life.
Duo Group is playing a central role in one of the most significant critical minerals projects in the UK — the restart of the Hemerdon tungsten and tin mine in Devon, the largest tungsten mine in the country.
The company is delivering the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) works package for the new crushing, screening and ore sorter facility at the Hemerdon site, covering the majority of the planned full rebuild of the front end of the processing facility.
The works form a major component of the wider Hemerdon restart programme.
“Securing this prestigious contract at Hemerdon marks an important milestone for the Duo Group Turnkey Division and reflects the trust placed in our turnkey capability and the professionalism of our team,” Duo Group Turnkey Division director Stephen Armour said.
“We look forward to supporting the restart of this world-class tungsten mine.”
The new facility will replace the site’s legacy hybrid roll crushers with modern jaw and cone crushing technology, alongside an advanced ore sorting system and a series of downstream processing improvements designed to enhance head-grade efficiency.
As an official UK distributor for Metso equipment, Duo Group is well placed to deliver, install and support the fixed plant at the heart of the new facility, as well as provide ongoing aftermarket services, wear and spare parts, and long-term customer support.
The announcement builds on Duo Group’s existing role as the EPC partner for the crushing, screening and ore sorter facility, in place since 2025.
Tungsten and tin are both classified as critical minerals which are vital to the defence, electronics, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing sectors.
Tungsten’s hardness and heat resistance make it essential to aerospace, military and industrial applications, while tin is fundamental to soldering, semiconductors and energy infrastructure.
With global supply chains for both minerals heavily concentrated outside the UK, the Hemerdon project represents a meaningful step toward strengthening Britain’s domestic supply and reducing dependence on imports.
